Have an updated list of all my medications with me.
An updated list of all your medications is an invaluable tool for all health professionals that you visit, especially if you have a file in more than one pharmacy.
For a pharmacist, this list has two main uses:
Reducing the risk of drug interactions
Some drugs, if taken together, may interact and cause unwanted effects that can sometimes be very serious. In addition, minor interactions may decrease the effectiveness of drugs.
It is important to make a list of any drugs (prescription and over-the-counter) and natural products you take and bring it with you when you visit your pharmacist.
Avoiding unnecessary treatment
Some people consult a doctor for illnesses that are a side effect of medication. Consulting your pharmacist first allows you to recognize symptoms and resolve the problem at its root.
Let the pharmacist know of any new drug or natural product you are taking, especially if you visit multiple pharmacies or you buy natural health products in specialty stores.
Remember that always consulting the same pharmacist is important.
